Pop-Up Cards

Here are some creative ways to use paper, glitter, and embellishments to make pop-up cards.

A few crafts materials can transform plain paper into wonderfully unique and personal greeting cards. Here are some creative ways to use paper, glitter, and embellishments to make both folded cards and pop-ups. Remember that beautiful cards needn't be elaborate: simple methods like layering paper, transferring shapes, or even affixing a dimensional flower sticker provide a truly special result.
Cut patterned paper to desired size and fold in half to crease. With a craft knife and ruler, cut two slits in center, 1/2-inch apart or wider, that overlap the crease at one end by 3/4-inch. Carefully close card so that center strip folds at each end and pops out as shown.
From coordinating craftstock, cut a rectangle 1/8 inch larger than pop-up card on all sides. Glue to back of pop-up card. To make the label, apply transferred message onto two more layers of paper of increasing size and glue to front of pop-up. Make sure the insert will not protrude when the card is folded.
Additional techniques: Place acrylic stamp letters on stamp mount in curve as shown. Stamp message onto card, then trim card to match the curved shape. Or create a message with double-sided stickers; sprinkle with glitter, then tap off excess. We've glued ours onto a calling card and attached it to a pop-up card decorated with glittered flowers (shown on previous page).
