Kids' Party Decorations

Creating a child's celebration from scratch can be as simple as selecting fun paper and rubber stamps.

Creating a child's celebration from scratch can be as simple as selecting fun paper and rubber stamps. For this party, we choose bandanna and dot patterns for a colorful, festive look, and used stamped numerals to spotlight the child's age. You can also create different kinds of party favors using the same basic materials and tools.
Cut 12x12-inch paper into four 6-inch squares. Fold squares into triangles around a strand of yarn to create banner. Seal triangles at fold with double-sided tape and rubber stamp with number or message. For napkin rings, cut 6-inch square into triangle, trim off one corner, then wrap and seal around napkin with tape.
To create cupcake toppers, stamp numbers or letters on paper and punch out with starburst craft punch. Cut a slightly larger circle shape from contrasting paper and tape to top of a long toothpick. On flat side of circle, attach the stamped piece with an adhesive foam dot. (This piece may also be applied to party hats below.)
Cut 12x12-inch paper into a circle, then in half. Roll from one corner to form cone, sealing outside edge with double-sided tape. Punch holes on either side with small-tipped screw punch; insert knotted baker's twine through holes for ties. For tassels, cut deep fringe along one edge of a 2x3-inch piece of food tissue paper. Roll up and tape at bottom, then insert into tip of hat.
