Crepe Paper Peonies

These beautiful crepe paper peonies won't wilt or drop petals. Use them to create wreaths, centerpieces and bouquets. This kit makes 4 flowers.
Neatly stack the petal color sheets, making sure that the paper grain is running vertically. Place the petal template on top of the stack and cut out petals. Do the same with the leaf template and green paper. Use the same procedure, but with paper grain running horizontally, to cut out yellow center pieces. Wrap all gin wires with florist's tape. (Stretch tape so that it becomes sticky.) Choose one side of the paper, in either shade, to be outside-facing color for each peony. Cup petals by placing both thumbs in the center (this will be the inside of the petal) and forefingers on the reverse side. Gently pull and stretch the paper with your thumbs, sculpting a petal shape. Inner petals should be cupped closer to the top, and the outer-layer petals should be cupped lower.
Holding center pieces horizontally, make cuts about 3/4in into the paper and about 1/16in apart, to create fringe. Tightly wrap and tape a fringed center piece around each stem, aligning top of wire to bottom of fringe.
Wrap a petal tightly around center into cone shape. Secure with a small piece of florist's tape ajust below cup shape. Wrap and glue petals around center, aligning the edge of the new petal with the center of the previous petal. Tape as needed, at about every 3 or 4 petals. As the bloom grows, petals should be fastened at a lower point on the petal, but at a consistent spot on the wire. Dab glue down the vertical center of a leaf. Place a 6in wire on glued area, from the tip of the leaf to the bottom with enough left over for a stem. Coat wire on the leaf with glue, then fold leaf in half lengthwise, hiding wire. Let dry, then pull the halves slightly apart. Wrap each leaf stem with florist's tape. Wrap 2 stems together. Attach to peony.
