These beautiful crepe paper irises won't wilt or drop petals. Use them to create
corsages, wreaths, centerpieces, and bouquets. This kit makes 6 flowers.
Work with 3 or 4 petal color sheets at one time. Neatly stack sheets,
making sure that the paper grain is running vertically. Place petal template
on top of the stack. To keep paper from shifting, staple all around the outer
edges of the stack. Add more staples when necessary as you cut out petals. Use
the same procedure to cut out leaves using the green paper and leaf templates.
Wrap each wire with florist's tape, stretching the tape so that it sticks to itself.
With darker side of the paper facing away from you, curl the top tips of the 3
inner petals toward you. Evenly space and tape petals tightly around wire stem,
facing inward, toward the center.
Ruffle the top edges of all 6 outer petals by gently stretching the paper
at very small intervals along the edge. Hold paper so that the lighter
side is facing away from you. Cup petals by placing both thumbs in the center
(this will be the inside of the petal) and forefingers on reverse side.
Gently pull and stretch the paper with your thumbs, sculpting a petal shape.
Evenly space and tape 3 petals around stem. Intersperse remaining 3 petals
between the first 3 and tape. Flip these last 3 petals down and away
from the flower so that the darker side faces up.
Fold each leaf lengthwise and crease. Wrap and tape leaf around bottom of stem.
